Now I¡¯d Like give you a real picture of social and economy development of Shaoxing. It includes industrial economy¡¢ rural economy¡¢enviroment protection, city-planning, education cause, medical care, culture and sports, broadcast and TV, family-planning, reform and opening-up.
Industry economy
The industry has developed rapidly especially since the reform and opening-up. It includes textile¡¢machinery¡¢food¡¢petrochemical¡¢medicine and electronics. In 2001, There were 1975 industry enterprises. The total industry value reached 479 hundred million with a proportion of 58.2% in Chinese market and the total sales volume came to 1154.6 hundred million.
The exportation value attained 18.75 hundred million us dollors, in 2003.
Rural economy
In 2003, The rural reform was completed which expanded the area of towns. And now there are 98 towns. Many Village Administrative Commissions have been established. And the rural facilities have become much better which results in the increasing of living standard
A good many labor forces move from rural areas to cities that¡¯s very good for the construction of cities.
Environment protection
Environment protection has been at the top of the agenda of Shaoxing¡¯s development. Many measures have been taken to protect the environment. And the quality of the atmosphere has improved.
The quality of water resources are very important to the environment protection. So a lot of laws have been implemented to guard against the pollution.
City planning
We¡¯re devoted to make Shaoxing a beautiful city. So we will have to build many economy centers of many kinds, including Yuecheng district. Keqiao,Paojiang.And also we plan to create a ecological
city.
Education cause
Shaoxing has a long history of education. Since the reform and opening-up. The education of Shaoxing has developed very rapidly. Education at all levels is very normal.
IN 2001, There were more than 2900 kindgartens and 35 thousand teachers.
And many education institutes are very famous in China.
Medical Care
The medicine industry was very developed in acient Shaoxing. Sanitation cause has developed very rapidly especially since the reform and opening-up.
The sanitation facilities and health level improved. And many sanitation institutes have been set up. These help improve the economy development and socical progress.
Culture and sports cause
The culture cause of Shaoxing is very developed. There are many cultural institutes.
Over the years, the culture cause developed very rapidly in many aspects under the support of the party and government at all levels.
A good many cultural festivals have been held in Shaoxing. It should be pointed out that every county of Shaoxing is very prosperous in cultural fields.
A public awareness of education and long tradition in running schools makes Shaoxing the home of so many well-known people generation after generation.They include politicians,ideologists,litera-
ture masters, scientists and artists.Fifty-eight present academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science And Chinese Academy of Engineering are from Shaoxing.The city has currently 5632 schools of different kinds ,in which over 1.172 million students are studying.Foreign investors are given convenience to have their children study in kindergartens anschools.
Broadcast and TV
Broadcast and TV cause began earlier in 1950¡¯s. Now, I¡¯d like to give you a beautiful picture of it : a lot of broadcast stations and TV stations have been established that promotes the economy development of Shaoxing.
Family planning
Shaoxing family planning commission, founded in August in 1983, is replaced by Shaoxing population and family planning commission now.
Major tasks of the committee are as follows: To carry out and publicize the population policy, To explore new working mechanism for market economy system and make great efforts to promote the development of Shaoxing.
Science and techonology
Science and techonology has developed very rapidly especially since 1989 when Shaoxing CPC committee and Municipal people¡¯s government outlined a development strategy of ¡°rejuvenate our city while taking advantage of science and techonology¡±. Advanced techonology is being widely applied to innovate traditional industry and high-tech industry is also developing very fast.
¡°Porch plan¡±,¡±starplan¡± have been implemented and National Level High-tech Industry Regions was approved. ¡°one region and two parks¡± (one region indicates:high-tech industry zones along 104 National Road from Shaoxing to Xingchang, Two Parks means provincial high-tech industry parks of ShangYu city and Shaoxing municipality) are being constructed.
¡°CAD¡±¡¢¡°CIMS¡± have been applied in some enterprises. For example, Shaoxing county is the only Model county of CAD application. Besides, some enterprises try to cooperate with universities and science institutions in product research and techonology innovation
Currently. There are seventeen state-owned research institutions, one hundred and three science institutions owned by some enterprises, Sixty seven and point nine thousand professional specialists.
In 1997, Shaoxing was granted with the title of National Outstanding City for Advance of Science and Technology, and listed as ¡°pioneering city to experiment technology innovation projects.

Foreign investment promotion
Foregin investment began in 1984 when Shengxian (called ¡°Shengzhou¡± now) Textile Enterprise, established Xingli Mey Necktie Co.Ltd in Shengzheng together with HongKong XingHua Textile And Necktie Enterprise. In December of the same year, Zhejiang jiayou Necktie Co.Ltd was establisehed in Shengzhou that marks the elementary stage of foreign investment promotion.
Many measures have been taken to promote foreign investment. For distance, facilities have improved. Shaoxing Foreign Investment promotion Authority was also established for the attraction of foreign investment.
